St Johns’ Fortress – Dubrovnik – Croatia is a complex and large fortress located on the south-eastern side of the old city port. It is one of the most important forts in the Dubrovnik City Walls defense. The side toward the sea is round and lower part of the wall is inclined. The part facing the port has flat vertical walls.
The building of Dock Fort starts in 1346. and lasts for several years. The first tower is build with a dual purpose. First, to defend the city from enemies. Second, to protect the city harbor from waves. This fortress is later upgraded and gets its final shape in the 16th century. The outline is visible on the western wall of the fortress.

St Johns’ Fortress – Dubrovnik – Croatia is home to the Maritime Museum since 1941, whose collection of several thousand objects shows the maritime history of Dubrovnik and its surroundings. Visitors can see numerous interesting exhibits, as models of old ships, maps, logbooks, flags and cannons.
Fortress is also home to the Aquarium, located on the ground floor (the Maritime Museum is on the first and second floors). This popular attraction includes 31 aquarium pools, which are home to various interesting species, including the trademark of the Aquarium – the seahorse.
At the foot of the St Johns’ Fortress is a jetty of Porporela, a popular meeting place for lovers.
