Minceta Fortress – Dubrovnik – Croatia, impressing with its beauty and size, it is considered the most recognizable tower within the famous walls of Dubrovnik.
The Minceta fortress – Dubrovnik, is named after the Minceta family, who donated the land to the city where the fort is located.
The first tower on the northwestern part of the walls and built in 1319. It has a square shape and built by Nikifor Mihalov Ranjina. But after the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the city authorities decide that it is necessary to strengthen the fortification system. The decision made: the northwest tower is going to have round shape.

In 1455, the project of Firenze native Michelozzo, one of the best architects of that era. The construction of Minceta Fortress – Dubrovnik – Croatia, begins six years later. The works are well advanced, when Michelozzo conflicts with the city authorities. Because they rejected his ideas for the restoration of the Rectors Palace he leaves Dubrovnik.
The finalization of Minceta Fort, assigned to Croatian native, builder Juraj Dalmatinac. Due to the threatening Turkish threat, there was a big pressure on Dalmatinac to complete the Fortress. The building is complete 9 years later, in 1464.
