St Ignatius Church – Dubrovnik – Croatia, is located on the main street Stradun. Dedicated to St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, the order of Jesuits.
The construction is from 1699 to 1725 with completion in 1729. The designer,Jesuit painter and architect Andrea Pozzo, famous for his magnificent frescoes in the church of the same name in Rome.
Dubrovnik Church of St. Ignatius is painted by another artist – Gaetano Garzia, a Sicilian master of Spanish origins. On the vault of the dome, the depiction the glory of St. Ignatius, various allegories and events of his life.
The depictions of him in his the knightly robes. Also, holding the book of the Institutions of the Society of Jesus, with four women by his side. An allusion to the four continents on which the Jesuits were active at the time. It also displays St. Ignatius sending St. Francis Xavier to the mission and receiving St. Francis Borgia to the Society of Jesus.
One of the interesting details is the ‘cave’ dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. It is build in 1885, what makes it one of the first ecclesiastical Lourdes caves in Europe. Refined by Lojzika Ulman in 1966.
Jesuit Stairs – Dubrovnik

One of the most popular Games of Thrones locations in Dubrovnik, thanks to the famous “Walk of shame ” scene.
Designed by Roman architect Pietro Passalacqua, the Jesuit Stairs is yet another fine example of Baroque architecture in Dubrovnik. With a striking resemblance to the well known Spanish Steps in Rome, this grand staircase is build in 1738.
Walking up the stairs is where the church of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuit College (Collegium Ragusinum) are located.
Enspired by the Baroque style planning – typical for this part of the Old Town, the staircase accentuates the prominent position of the Jesuit College and the church.
